Bolivian Criollo Black is classified as a dark tobacco, but it has many characteristics similar to a burley. It is a vigorous grower and heavy producer reaching up to 8′ in height, and reaching maturity in 70 days. It produces 26 – 28 harvestable leaves per plant. The large white stemmed leaves are very sticky and reach 14″ -16″ in width and 30″ – 36″ long. The leaves turn a light green and yellow as they ripen, and air cure easily to a light brown. The flavor is similar to a medium strength burley. It can be used as a pipe tobacco or blended with other tobaccos for cigarettes or cigar filler.
Negro Black grows 5′ to 6′ in height with a classic Virginian type plant form and leaf shape. The leaves are a medium to dark green averaging 12″ to 14″ in width and 20″ to 22″ in length. It matures in 55-60 days.
